How to hem a dress 裾上げの手順
3 kinds of Sewing Machines. 3種類のミシンを使用
- SPUR 90 Sewing machine シュプール90
- #9 needle 9番の針
- Red color Resilon which is thread for knit fabric 糸はレジロン
- Used for the folded hem width adjustment. 折り返したヘムの横幅調節に使いました。
- Baby Lock Serger sewing machine ベビーロックのロックミシン
- #11 needles 11番の針
- #90 red color span thread 90番のスパン糸
- Used for displacing the washing label 洗濯ラベルを移動するのに使いました。
- Baby Lock cover stitching machine ベビーロックのふらっとろっく
- #12 needles 12番の針
- #60 red span thread 60番のニット用スパン糸
- Used for hemming the shell 裾上げの表に出るステッチです。メインでこのミシンを使いました。
Draw lines 線を引く
Measure the original hem length. Draw the line to fold and a parallel line from it to the hem length.
元々のヘムの長さを測ります。短くしたい長さのところに線を引いて、そこから裾の方向へ、ヘムの長さを平行に線を引きます。
Cut & Iron 切ってアイロン
Cut the excess fabric off. Fold the hem and Iron it.
余分な布をカット。ヘムを折ってアイロンをかけます。
Sew 縫う
When you fold the hem to the inside, you will see the excess fabric at the seam allowance.
ヘムを折ると、切った端の方が長いです。
Sew the excess parts like making a triangle and fold it back then cover stitch the hem.
なので、その余分な分を踏まえて、もともとの縫い目から端に向かって「く」の字に縫います。
（くの字は下の写真のほうを見てください。くの字に縫って、縫い代を倒して縫っている写真です。）
Fold down the hem to back side, and sew it. Always put garments which are long and fragile into a big plastic bag to avoid any stains, dirt and anything to damage.
縫い代を倒して後ろ身ごろ方向へ倒して縫います。長い、傷つきやすいような洋服は、汚れたり傷がつかないように大きなプラスチックの袋に入れます。
Lining 裏地
Do all over the same procedure for the lining except for displacing a washing label.
裏地でも同じ手順で裾上げをしますが、その前に洗濯タグを移動します。
Different sewing way of lining 裏地の異なる縫い方
The same dress in different color, black one, had different sewing way of lining. Or I should say how the lining is facing to is different.
色違いのドレスの裾上げも承ったのですが、縫い方が違ってました。縫い方というか、裏地の向きが違いました。
The seam allowance of the red dress' lining is facing to skin in the red dress. Black one is to the shell.
赤いドレスの裏地の縫い代は肌の方向を向いていて、黒い方はドレスの表地側を向いています。
It is hard to say which one is correct. The black one priors the comfort of skin touch and the red one priors its looking.
どちらが正しいかは一概に言えなくて、黒は縫い代が肌に当たらないように肌辺りを優先していて、赤い方は、（タイトなシルエットだからと思うのですが、）縫い代が表に響かないようにしているとも言える、と思いました。
